The Armory Takes on New Life.
    (November 23, 2005)
The Washington Avenue Armory Sports and Convention Arena

The Washington Avenue Armory Sports and Convention Arena has been redesigned as one of New York’s premier mid-sized venue for sporting events, concerts, trade shows, conventions, receptions, private parties, and more.

It is also home to the Albany Patroons professional basketball team. The original founder and president of the Albany Patroons, Jim Coyne, joined with former Patroons president, Benito R. Fernandez, to acquire a new franchise in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA).

Dave Bestle, Director of Operations for The Armory, says that “It’s great to be part of The Armory’s storied past - and what promises to be an exciting future.” He explained that the multimillion dollar renovation of the complex created a state-of-the-art facility for events of all types. With 38,000 square feet of expanded floor space, a seating capacity of 4,000, concert-quality acoustics, advanced lighting systems, and a technically expert staff, The Armory is the ideal space to host special events.

The Armory staff also offers in-house support services such as audiovisual presentation guidance, creating the right environment for the occasion, advertising and publicity, box office services, equipment handling, and event staffing.

A variety of spaces are available in The Armory. Depending on the nature of the occasion, you might prefer the more intimate conference meeting rooms with their comfortable, upscale setting, the executive parlors for training and planning sessions, or the Patroon Room, located on the main concourse, for large gatherings of up to 4,000 in a theater or convention-type setting.

Of course, The Armory’s location on Washington

Avenue is convenient to all major highways and approximately 2,000 parking spaces are located within a four-block radius of Washington Avenue and Lark Street.

“The redevelopment of the Armory is great for the regional business community,” says Anthony Capece, executive director of the Central BID. The area needs meeting and public spaces and the Armory is in a great location near restaurants, housing, and highways.
