Petunias are all the rage in the district.

You don’t have to look overhead to see them: the baskets of petunias in their shades of pink and purple catch your eye wherever you look.

And they’ve been glorious this summer. Grown especially for the district by Verstandig’s Florists, the petunias add a colorful note that cheer up motorists, as well as pedestrians. In fact, they’ve been the envy of other districts (but we won’t get into that.).

Of course, they wouldn’t look as good as they do without constant tending, especially with this summer’s hot, dry weather. For that we thank Rick Hebert of ABM, who deadheads, waters, and maybe even talks to the plants now and then.

In all, we hung 302 baskets throughout the entire district. After all, there is strength in numbers. And in petunias.
